Dr. Mick Fielding

Dr. Mick Fielding is the Principal Research & Development Fellow (Advanced Mechatronics Systems) at the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), Deakin University. In his capacity as Project Manager and Lead Engineer, Mick has contributed to more than 150 commercial, strategic and Defence projects with a combined value exceeding AU$14m.

Mick is a named inventor on seven international patents, and co-author of a further 45 E1 publications and peer-reviewed industry reports.

Mick completed both his B.Eng and Ph.D in the field of robotics and has over 20 years experience conceiving, testing, commissioning and supporting complex systems in a variety of real-world applications. Mick particularly enjoys leading teams to create elegant engineering solutions for complex real-world problems.

Training

The Centre will provide skills and training in advanced manufacturing across the energy storage supply chain – from materials through to devices and into integrated commercial products – to facilitate the next-generation of energy storage technologies.

Research

Working with the industry partners, researchers will design and manufacture new energy storage devices and components, including advanced Li ion, supercapacitors and solid state Li and Na batteries, with improved rate capability, capacity and safety.

Industry

In close collaboration with industry, the centre will build value across the sector, from developing supply chains, new devices and technologies to integrating and embedding these technologies with end-users.
