Dr Andrew Rider

Dr Andrew Rider is currently the Aerospace Composite Technologies Group Leader in DST Group’s Aerospace Division.

He has over 25 years research experience in the areas of composite materials and bonded structure and the application of advanced repair technologies to Australian Defence aircraft.

More recently, the Aerospace Composite Technologies Group has developed research programs in multifunctional composite materials, with the purpose of creating advanced capability for future Defence Aerospace platforms.

Recent research within the group has developed antenna elements that have been directly integrated into composite structure, as well as, energy storage devices that are compatible with traditional composite manufacturing processes.

Training

The Centre will provide skills and training in advanced manufacturing across the energy storage supply chain – from materials through to devices and into integrated commercial products – to facilitate the next-generation of energy storage technologies.

Research

Working with the industry partners, researchers will design and manufacture new energy storage devices and components, including advanced Li ion, supercapacitors and solid state Li and Na batteries, with improved rate capability, capacity and safety.

Industry

In close collaboration with industry, the centre will build value across the sector, from developing supply chains, new devices and technologies to integrating and embedding these technologies with end-users.
